- How will my gift be used?
- Your gift will help fund needed scholarships for deaf or hard-of-hearing children in Western Washington to attend Northwest School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children (NWSDHH). While public school districts contract with NWSDHH to educate deaf and hard-of-hearing students who are falling behind in their regular schools, the funding does not cover the full cost of our highly specialized program. Your scholarship gift ensures that all students, regardless of their financial background, can access our unique and individualized learning program that will prepare them to compete on a level playing field with their hearing peers.
- What is the impact of the NWSDHH?
- NWSDHH’s students leave our program with academic, English and reading skills at or above grade level. They are ready to integrate into regular high schools and compete on a level playing field with their hearing peers. On average, deaf students graduate from high school reading at a third or fourth grade level, but NWSDHH’s students graduate from high school with reading skills at or near grade level.
- How does NWSDHH prepare students for the future?
- Nearly all of our graduates go on to pursue postsecondary degrees and they are more than twice as likely to be employed as deaf and hard-of-hearing young adults in Washington State. They are also significantly more likely to be registered to vote, hold a driver’s license and are more self-sufficient than deaf and hard-of-hearing adults across the nation.
- How many deaf or hard-of-hearing students will benefit from this campaign?
- Your gift will benefit the more than 100 deaf or hard-of-hearing children who are attending our preschool through 8th grade program or benefit from our Outreach Programs in public school districts throughout the region.

About Northwest School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children
Founded in 1982, Northwest School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children is the only preschool through 8th grade private school for deaf children in Washington. Most students attend at no charge thanks to funding from school districts and our donors. Our program empowers students with on grade-level academic skills, the self-esteem to pursue their dreams and the knowledge that deafness is a difference, not a limitation.
